The Adventures of Mo is a free online children’s program about US geography and history. Its main goal is to draw upon children’s imagination and energy to help make geography and history entertaining, relevant and, at times, exciting!
This program is driven by an online geography book (also called The Adventures of Mo) for kids. It follows the adventures of a dog named Mo and a bird named Finchy as they travel across the country in search of Florida so they can return a lost key to its rightful owner.
These new friends travel to every US state where they face unique obstacles, difficult challenges, or wind up in unfamiliar situations. The animals or creatures Mo and Finchy meet along the way help them out and also educate them about the place or state they call home.
Just like no two states are alike, no two adventures are alike. This geography book for kids treats early readers to 50 fun adventures that will make them laugh, wonder, and better understand that individual differences are what make this world a better place.

This geography book for kids is unlike any other. It can help early readers learn more about:
Cardinal directions
Are your kids familiar with compass directions? Do they know north from south and east from west?
Mo introduces early readers to the concept of cardinal or compass directions. Did Mo and Finchy travel north, south, east or west from one state to another? Each chapter includes the direction and the route that these friends travel to get from one state to another.
One chapter (34) features a professor of “directionology” who teaches his students all about, you guessed it, directions. By the time your kids finish that chapter, they’ll have a good chance of acing his course!
Geography
Each chapter in this geography book for kids offers a fun adventure in a different US state and also references the names of cities or places in that state. Children now have an opportunity to apply cardinal directions in the real world. For example, are these cities located in the northern, southern, eastern or western part of the state?
As parents, you’re also encouraged to play a fun geography game with your kids: Can they identify which state Mo and Finchy are visiting based on clues in each chapter?
Teachable moments
Early readers may also discover, relate to, or learn pivotal life lessons that serve as the backdrop in many chapters. This geography book for kids focuses on a variety of topics, including: the importance of community, diversity, friendship and honesty, to name a few.
